FAQ

What are eyelash extensions?

Ruby Divine eyelash extensions are individually applied single eyelashes which are bonded to your natural eyelashes using medical grade fume-free adhesive. They do not come into contact with the skin. Eyelash extensions come in a range of lengths, thicknesses, curls and colours to enhance your eye shape.

Why should I try eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions enhance the natural beauty of your face by improving the size & shape of your eyes.  Perceived facial imperfections can be improved with the application of eyelash extensions such as small eyes, eyes that are close together, small/large nose etc.
Many clients love their lashes because they no longer need to wear eye-makeup. Eyelash extensions will make you look younger, healthier and more vital.  They are perfect for the busy lifestyle; require minimal day-to-day maintenance and there’s nothing better than waking up in the morning with beautiful ready-to-go eyes.

Explain the process of visiting Ruby Divine & having eyelash extensions applied?

If you are a new client to Ruby Divine we will start by asking you to complete a brief questionnaire  including details of any allergies, medical conditions etc.  From there, we complete a consultation where we show you examples of different lashes and ask what you’re wanting to achieve with the final look.
You will then be asked to lie down on our super comfortable eyelash extension ‘bed’ & the technician will apply soothing collagen eye pads to your lower eyelids.  You will be asked to close your eyes & once any residual makeup has been removed from the lashes, the technician will begin applying the extensions lash-by-lash using a magnifying lamp which is placed above your face.  Lots of clients find the process so relaxing they simply go to sleep.

Are eyelash extensions permanent? How long will they last?

Eyelash extensions are semi-permanent and similar to the hair on your head; your lashes grow out and are replaced with new ones. As your natural eyelashes grow and fall out, the fake eyelash attached goes with it. Lash growth cycles vary from person to person and you can expect your lashes to last anywhere from 3-8 weeks depending on your lash cycle and how well you care for them.  Lash infill’s (to keep lashes looking full & lush) are generally recommended at around 4 weeks.

Will eyelash extensions damage my natural lashes?

No.  At Ruby Divine we use best quality products & adhesives so your lashes will never be permanently damaged from our extensions.

I have very sensitive eyes.  Are eyelash extensions suitable for me?

Yes in most cases.  We use a range of adhesives with some specifically designed for sensitive eyes.  Because eyelash extensions are bonded to the natural lash approximately 1mm from the eyelid, the adhesive never comes into contact with the skin.

Can I get my eyelash extensions wet?  Can I swim?

Yes but we recommend waiting 24 hours after the application before getting your extensions wet. Following that, you can shower, swim, bathe & cry! Eyelash Extensions are perfect for that Island holiday on the beach with perfect snapshot eyes every time.

Can I wear mascara if I have eyelash extensions?

The majority of ladies find they don’t need to wear mascara and enjoy not having to. However if you would like to wear mascara, Ruby Divine stocks a mascara range specifically formulated for lash extensions.  We recommend using an oil free make up remover and oil free products around the eyes.

How do I remove my eyelash extensions?

The best way to remove extensions is to make an appointment to see a certified eyelash extension technician to have them removed using a specific adhesive remover.  This way your natural lashes will remain undamaged.

Caring for your eyelash extensions
Before your appointment

For the best possible eyelash extensions please arrive to your appointment without any eye make up on. Waterproof mascara is especially difficult to remove and any residue may create a barrier between your lashes and your extensions and may shorten the life of your extensions. If you must arrive to your appointment with mascara on, please wear a water based one.

You will be required to lie on your back with your eyes closed anywhere from 1-2 hours depending on how many & the type of extensions used and we appreciate phones being turned to slient mode.

Immediately after
For best results do not touch or wash your eyelash extensions until 24 hours has passed. This will give the glue a good length of time to fully cure.

General Care
To prolong the life of your extensions avoid sleeping on your stomach, rubbing your eyes or using oil based products on your lashes or eye area.
To keep lashes looking great we recommend using an eyelash comb to gently brush the lashes into place particularly when rising in the morning.

Spray Tans:  what you need to know

Pre Spray Tan

Some medications can affect your tan i.e oral antibiotics which can stay in your system for up to 4 weeks thus altering the pH of your skin and resulting in an uneven tan or a tan not developing to its full colour result.  Ideally you should avoid a spray tan for 2-4 weeks after competing a course of medication.

We advise against having a spray tan while pregnant and if you are breast feeding please inform the therapist so the breast & nipple area can be avoided.

Exfoliate, moisturise and shave or wax (if desired) your entire body at least 24 hours before your tan appointment.  Avoid doing this on the day of the treatment as this can create an uneven tan.

Remove any jewellery & leave off until your spray tan has been showered off.  Remember to wear old, loose or dark clothing to avoid staining after your tan has been applied.

You will be offered a disposable g-string and hair protector or you can choose to wear a pair of your own undies or go underwear free to avoid a tan line.

After your Spray Tan

Avoid washing your hands, splashing with water or rain until your tan has been allowed the appropriate time to develop and then washed off.

Avoid spraying perfume, deodorant or using any products on your face/body until the tan has been washed off and avoid touching any part of your face or body while your tan is developing.

When the tan is ready to be washed off, shower in a warm shower for 1-2 mins.  You may notice brown staining of the water which is just the bronzer being washed off.  Remember that your tan continues to develop after it has been washed off so don’t panic if it doesn’t appear as dark as you thought it would.

After showering gently pat your skin dry (no rubbing) and apply a moisturiser (a fragrance free product such as Shea Butter is perfect).  Moisturiser can be applied both morning & night to help prolong your tan and we also stock a range of Solaire tan extending products which are great for maximising your tan for 10 days or more.

Your tan will start to gradually fade 5-10 days after the application.  At this stage you can gently remove any residule tan by gently exfoliating with gloves, loofah etc.  Shaving, waxing, heavy sweating, long/hot showers, spas etc will all shorten the life of your tan so its best to limit these while your enjoying a spray tan.
